İptal/Söyleşi: “‘Drum and Trumpets, and to London all’: Sound, Social Blocking, and the Lord Pembroke’s Players,” Elizabeth Tavares, University of Illinois, G-160, 12:40 1 Mart (EN)

Dear Bilkent Colleagues and Students,

The Program in Cultures, Civilizations and Ideas will host a talk on Tuesday, March 1 at 12:40-1:40 p.m. in room G-160. Tea, coffee and sandwiches will be available.

Elizabeth Tavares, Department of English Literature, University of Illinois, Champaign will present:

“‘Drum and trumpets, and to London all’: Sound, Social Blocking, and the Lord Pembroke’s Players”
This talk focuses on the house style of a rather politically notorious Renaissance playing company. In it, I focus on one of the more famous lost plays of the English Renaissance theater, Thomas Nashe’s The Isle of Dogs, as a study in how accounting for a company’s presentational strategies inflects how we tell the story of lost plays and, by extension, the early modern theatrical experience.
