Title: ‘The Philippines in ASEAN: Confronting the Challenges of Regional Integration’

Abstract:
One of the biggest challenges to economies attempting to integrate is the shifting of loyalties from a national core to a regional one. There are also pluses and minuses in movement of goods, services and skilled labour as ASEAN moves to ASEAN 2020, which may be instructive to others.

Short Bio:
Prof. Dr. Clarita R. Carlos holds the Elpidio Quirino Professor of International Relations at the University of the Philippines. She is the president of the Center for Asia Pacific Studies, and has lectured at the National Defense University in the United States and also at the Council of Asian Liberals & Democrats. She pursued her post-doctoral degrees in political psychology and comparative foreign policy analysis at Cornell University and University of California at Los Angeles, respectively.
