Konferans: “Quadrilateral Panelization of Freeform Surface Structures,” Dr. Aysu Berk, FFB-06, 13:40 8 Mart (EN)

Title: “Quadrilateral Panelization of Freeform Surface Structures”
Speaker: Aysu Berk, PhD.
8 March/Wednesday
Time: 13:40 – FFB-06 (FF Building)

Abstract:
Freeform surfaces need to be discretized into manageable sized panels so that the surface can be fabricated in smaller pieces that are then assembled on site. This discretization process embraces numerous challenges, comprising not only the design and spatial concerns, but also structural and constructional necessities. In this talk, quadrilateral discretization of freeform surfaces will be discussed with the focus of material capacities of panels and the possibility of utilizing quadrilateral meshes with limited non-planarity.

Biography:
Dr. Aysu Berk graduated from Middle East Technical University with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and Master’s degrees both in Civil Engineering and in Architecture. She received her PhD from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in the field of Building Science in 2012. Her research interests focus on the relation of structure and architecture; freeform surfaces and bridge structures. She has been working as an instructor at the department of Architecture at Bilkent University since January 2013.
