New media technologies present new opportunities and responsibilities for different stakeholders in times of crises. Social technologies are not only technologies; they are also social. Therefore, they create additional concerns on practicality, ethics, disinformation, and access. This study reviews and compares the social media coverage of a selection of terror attacks in 2016 with a crisis communication perspective and an emphasis on Twitter. It investigates the usage of Twitter as a tool to receive, process and distribute information outside of traditional news sources, as well as a platform in which citizens engage different stakeholders on matters of public concern. Different approaches on crisis communication as a part of crisis management, basic elements of graph theory, and social network analysis tools are utilised to compare how citizens receive news and general information about terror events via Twitter-based on their preferred language.
