In his first novel, “The Clarinetist” (Gırnatacı), for which he won the 2012 Everest First Novel Award, Ercüment Cengiz used the somber sound of the G-clarinet to take readers on a journey between Istanbul and Chicago and from 1890 to 1955. In his second novel, “The Cellist” (Çellocu), he carries the reader back to the time of Abdülmecid to the accompaniment of Vivaldi’s concerto.

In this interview, guest author Ercüment Cengiz will respond to the questions and comments of writer and critic Cem Erciyes, using music, images, and words to illuminate his historically grounded novels.
