Please join us for the screening of award winning German composer Ulrich Kreppein’s opera:

“Die Versuchung des heiligen Antonius (the temptation of St. Anthony) based on Gustave Flaubert for 6 Soloists, 2 Actors, Vocal Ensemble, Choir and large Orchestra, Commissioned by the Staatstheater Oldenburg in collaboration with the Deutsche Bank Foundation Frankfurt (January 2011 – April 2012)

The composer himself will be present and introduce his work.

Bio
Ulrich Kreppein is the recipient of many prestigious awards, including the composers’ prize of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation in 2012. In 2013 he received the first prize at the Alexander Zemlinsky Competition of the University of Cincinnati. He won the jury and the audience price at the Heidelberger Frühling 2012. In 2009 he was awarded at the SWR Orchestra Workshop in Stuttgart, Germany, and was a finalist at the international Isang Yun Competition, Seoul, South Korea. Other scholorships and grants include: residency grant at the Künstlerhof Schreyahn for spring 2012; a scholarships by the Academy for Contemporary Music Theatre of the Deutsche Bank Foundation and from the Academy of Fine Arts Berlin, and from the German National Merit Foundation, also DAAD fellowship in 2003 and 2004.

His music has been performed all around the world but also in many prestigious places such as the Berliner Philharmonie and the Carnegie Hall in New York His works include orchestra, operas as well as chamber music. Mr. Kreppein received commissions by the Radio Orchestra of Berlin, the Callithumpian Consort in Boston, the Britten Sinfonia in Cambridge, Opera Lab Berlin, Staatstheater Oldenburg, Orchestra National de Belgique, Bachakademie Stuttgart, Kammerakademi Potsdam, Boulanger Trio and the SWR Stuttgart (Southwest radio Orchestra) among others

His opera “Die Versuchung des heiligen Antonius” (the temptation of St. Anthony) premiered at the Staatstheater Oldenburg in 2012. And most recently his experimental music theater based on Peter Weiss for Voice and 8 Instruments – Körper / Schatten (bodies / shadows) was performed by Opera Lab Berlin, last march.

He is currently teaching composition at the Liszt University of Music (Hochschule für Musik) in Weimar.
