Seminar: “Intentions, Institutions, and Indiscernibles,” by Stein Haugom Olsen

Time: 16:40 to 18:00, Wednesday 10 October 2018.
Location: G 160

In the course of the last thirty years the concept of perceptually indiscernible objects has been given a central role as a theoretical instrument in certain types of arguments in aesthetics and in the philosophy of literature. and literary theory. A whole theory of art has been built around this concept. In this talk it is argued that the concept of perceptual indiscernibility cannot carry the theoretical weight placed on it, and that it has only a very limited usefulness as a theoretical instrument.
